There is a meme floating around that is making me question somethings.

I am not going to argue the merits or validity of this election. That is left to people who are primed for a fight, on both sides.

But in the last few days, this meme has made its way to my feed multiple times...

I’m sorry to any of you who are so narrow minded, so misguided, so archaic that you believe such nonsense.

Who has been telling their daughters, “Oh sweetie, yes, you are smart and capable but there has never been a female Vice President so I need you to dumb it down and pick a new dream.“

Who has been telling their beautiful dark skinned children, “I have never seen a dark skinned VP so its not an option.”

And who is teaching their boys that womens voices dont matter?! Seriously?! First of all, a womans voice matters not because she has achieved something as amazing and recognizable as the office of the Vice President of the United States. Her voice matters because she is HUMAN. Because she is a person. Because SHE IS! Full stop. All other arguments are invalid. Secondly, for all of you beautiful dark-skinned folks (male or female), I am sorry that you grew up not seeing yourself represented in a particular space. But there is not one single thing stopping you from becoming that representation all by your self! In fact, how can I help you?!

But I dont want icons and heroes based on skin color, I want them in all shapes and sizes and colors based on their work, their heart, their contributions to the betterment of this sad world. Finally, I was taught, I have taught my daughters and I will continue to teach every single one of my clients, I dont care what has been done or what has always been done. Go make your dreams happen!

I was told there was no way to make a career of pageant coaching, yet here I sit in my jeep that is paid for by the company I started. I am about to walk into a pageant where I have over ten clients competing and participating who are each pursuing social impact initiatives, creating and running businesses and non-profits AND maintaining exceptional grades at school. And not a single one is over the age of 18 yet. Ladies, if you have a dream but dont see a clear path, straighten your spine and march on. This is exactly how every great thing has ever started. So no, Kamala Harris is not my ticket to new places and new levels of excellence. My dreams, my lessons, my validations rests solely in me. So stop taking away all of my hard work just because somebody else did something.
